Commit to a 2 Year Lease

Does it pay to sign a 2 year lease with a rent stabilized apartment?  According to the NYPost article Second Year Itch it seems like a long commitment but you will actually make out in the end.   Over the past 10 years the article states that those who signed two year leases saved nearly $4000 more than those who signed 1 year leases.
